Wiki-Brilliant!

I began this post last week as a diatribe defending the sanctity of wikipedia, but I saved it and never posted it. In light of the Abramoff article however, it seems relevant again.

And I am lazy.

And am (apparently) turning into a libertarian.

But mostly still, just lazy...

Now, here's a thought...

You have a blog or otherwise create electronic content of a written nature.

You may occasionally relate events that happen in or around your area or involving your avocations.

After doing such for a period of time you become to some extent or another a source of information. Whether it be rehashed and commented on or more or less original makes no differance really as people have begun to respect your writings and or opinions.

You have, in effect, become a journalist despite your best intentions.

Interesting that you may or may not be extended the rights that come with that rather loathesome profession. Depending on what it is that someone has decided they will go after you for you may be opening up yourself to legal action just because at some point people started listeing to you.

So, because some dumb ass in Idowa has decided that you are now a source of information you can get sued for doing same thing that FOX News does. BUT and this is a BIG BUT you get none of the "journalistic perks" Such as, oh lets say an easy one, FREEDOM OF SPEACH or the right to protect your sources. Funny that Major News folds, spindles and mutilates information on an HOURLY basis and no one bats an eye...

Just my 2 cents and it really didn't have anythig to do with this post except that it's in regards to electronic media and independant press. I really need to start a blog so I can rant there....
